Saumyalatha’s husband was working as a mason when he fell and was badly injured. Since then Saumyalatha has provided the sole income for her family. She has three daughters and together with her husband they live cramped in a tiny house with little more than two beds, a small kitchen, a desk and a sewing machine. When I met her the sewing machine was broken and she had no means of providing for her family. With the loan from Mia Fratino Saumy has fixed the machine and from the supplies she bought has made pillow cases, baby suits and door mats. She is also doing some mending for other families in her area. The loan from Mia Fratino has given her not just an income, but independence and dignity.
